|PLANET Day of Service|
Auburn's PLANET Day of Service project was be featured on Fox 8 News!
On April 22, 2014, Auburn Career Center landscape horticulture students will participate in the nation’s lawn and landscape association, Professional Landcare Network (PLANET), PLANET Day of Service. The annual PLANET Day of Service is a grassroots event that allows lawn and landscape professionals to organize volunteer projects in their own communities to beautify the grounds of schools, senior centers, parks and anywhere that people enjoy green spaces.
Over 20 landscape horticulture students, instructor Dave Richards and volunteers from the landscape industry will follow a professionally designed plan which includes landscaping plantings at the sign entrances of both the Bainbridge Police and Fire Stations. Additional foundation plantings will be installed at the Fire Station as well as the reinstallation of a brick walkway. Memorial trees will be planted at the township’s Heritage Park to honor long- time Bainbridge residents and civic leaders, Clyde Whaley and Dennis Martin.
A special thanks to Bainbridge Trustees and Service Director, Jim Stanek for their support. The generous donations that contribute to the success of this project were made by a Lake County Nursery, Losely Nursery, and Phelps Ohio Nursery , all from Lake County. Perennials were donated by Art Form Perennial Growers of South Russell. Design services and project coordination was donated by Impullitti Landscaping of Burton.
This will celebrate the third Day of Service for the Auburn Horticultural students and their instructor Dave Richards in which students demonstrate goodwill and environmental stewardship as well as create new relationships in their communities. They spend time becoming part of a movement to improve the world’s green spaces and join fellow green industry professionals for a dedicated day of giving back to local communities around the world. Prior Day of Service Projects included Tuttle Park and City Hall in Painesville.
