A New Start on Life
In the fall of 2011, Mary Kolin was looking for a way to make significant changes in her life. Due to family health issues and the need to care for her children, Mary had to temporarily postpone her long-time goal of obtaining her college degree in nursing. Not wanting to give up that dream totally, Mary contacted the Auburn Practical Nursing Program to see if she would be able to start the program in January 2012. “I wanted to find a school that would give me a solid foundation for my nursing skills. I also wanted to find a school where I could ‘get in and get out’ so I could start earning a better wage than I had.”
Mary recently attained her goal. After passing her NCLEX-PN exam following graduation, Mary was hired by a facility within a week. “I credit my success not only to my hard work, but also to the caring attitude of my instructors. I feel that everyone associated with the program wants each and every student to succeed.”
Mary feels so strongly about her experience at the Auburn Practical Nursing Program that she recently visited one of the current classes to share her experience and offer words of encouragement. “I feel that it is important to “pay it forward” since that was the experience I had.” Mary’s future plans not only include becoming familiar with her new job, but continuing her education from a Licensed Practical Nurse to a Registered Nurse. Good luck, Mary!
