Program Outcomes

Successful completion of the program will provide the student with:

Knowledge and Skills

  • Basic car maintenance, oil changes, transmission services, and tune-ups
  • Proper tire repair according to Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA) Standards
  • Computer spin balancing using the latest technology in road surface variation 
  • Computerized 4-wheel alignments
  • Testing of on-board computer systems and check engine lights using scan tools
  • Basic electronic theory, Ohm's Law, series and parallel circuits
  • Hydraulic brake theory and operations 
  • ABS brake systems and diagnosis of electric systems involved 
  • Oxy-fuel torch cutting and basic MIG welding

Certifications

  • OSHA CareerSafe Certificate
  • National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation-Brakes/Electrical/Engine Performance/Steering & Suspension
  • S/P2 - Safety & Pollution Prevention

Articulated College Credit

Students may earn credit in brakes and steering/suspension at college level.
